Questions Generators should ask companies that want to recycle their used oil filters.

  • When you pick up my filters does any other company get involved or do you do everything (transport, process, recycle)?

Transporters= remove used oil filters from generators and deliver to a processor.

Processors = separate waste oil from scrap steel so steel can be melted to produce new products

  • Does the processor where my filters go have DEP permitting to process used oil filters?
  • How are my used oil filters recycled?
  • Does 100% of the oil filters (oil, steel and filter paper) get recycled?
  • Does the transporter have environmental liability insurance that covers the used oil filters during transportation?
  • Does the processor have environmental liability insurance that covers the used oil filters at the processors location?
  • Is a contract required between parties that states price and responsibilities of each? How long does the contract last?
  • Is there a barrel deposit fee?
  • Are there any surcharges (fuel, environmental)?
  • What guarantees are given? Are they written and signed?
